All About the Whimsy

Unraveling Whimsy officially began in 2024, but I have been making things for as long as I can remember. My grandmother first taught me to crochet when I was little, showing me how to add dainty edges to washcloths. From there, I moved on to small blankets. They were almost always lopsided, but my dolls didn’t care. Crochet eventually fell by the wayside, though crafting never did.

Over the years, I explored all kinds of creative work, but crochet eventually found its way back to me recently through a Woobles kit. That experience pulled me into the world of amigurumi, and I quickly fell down the rabbit hole of new stitches, shaping techniques, and construction methods. Then I discovered blanket yarn. The pieces are so soft, squishy, and much quicker to make than the projects I remembered from childhood. Soon, I was making more creatures than I could keep, and Unraveling Whimsy was born.

Today, I create crocheted pieces that range from sweet and playful to creepy-cute and wonderfully strange. I am especially drawn to designs with personality, whether that means an unusual little companion, a two-headed oddity, or a custom piece based on client’s idea.

Although I am the person behind the designs and the making, Unraveling Whimsy is supported by a very helpful crew. My husband and kids assist with tagging, sorting, inventory, market setup, and takedown. Their behind-the-scenes work makes craft-show days possible, and I am deeply grateful for it.

The household management team also deserves recognition. Snickers, our tortie cat, oversees operations and keeps me on task. Stormy, also known as Bubs, serves as Inspector General and thoroughly examines every incoming package. Ashley, who is dog-shaped, handles morale and remains our most enthusiastic cheerleader.

You can find Unraveling Whimsy at local craft shows, through custom orders, and in select local shops. What began as a childhood love of making things has grown into a small business and a way to share that creativity with others, one slightly peculiar creature at a time.
